FRUIT FILLINGS SEASONS IN REVIEW
11/04/2009

Greetings!  And once again thank you for visiting the Fruit Fillings Inc. website!

We find ourselves well into the final quarter of this very challenging year of 2009.  The economic climate has touched all aspects of our daily existence with what appears an economy that is finally showing signs, (an ember's glow if you will), of brightening up, we would hope, to those levels of recent years past. We at Fruit Fillings Inc. are optimistic; going forward; presenting new items and lines of ready to use fruit and cream pastry fillings for your business and customers.  However, before we share with you these new exciting products and options, a brief report on the status of the various fruit and commodity markets.

The great news is that the Wild and Cultivated Blueberry harvests were indeed robust as was anticipated in our last report.  The same held true of the Apple and Peach harvests.  All of our products utilizing these three are once again great bargains reflecting the dropping market prices.

Even the Cherry Market was affected by another great crop year and a large carry-over of frozen product from previous years' harvests!  Pricing was slightly down from the previous years.  We can only hope that the 2010 harvest continues the trend of the past couple of years and affords the Bakery Industry relief from the high raw product prices that have been endured for the past few years.

Blackberries are fairly stable and remain a bargain.  Please visit our web site, or call our office for a listing of the various pastry fillings that we prepare with either our Marion berry or Boysenberry inventories.

Apricots and Pineapple-this is the less than positive aspect of our report.  They, like the sugar market, are currently, and will well into 2010, be areas of strong and perhaps advancing pricing.  Apricot pricing will remain strong through 2010 due to the diminished acreage and reduction of processing facilities.  At this time there is only one processor in California.  Non-domestic growers and packers are quite aware of this factor and will probably enjoy the rewards that accompany such a scenario.

Pineapple…simply stated-drought!  This climatic condition continues to plague the major growing regions in Southeast Asia.  Processors are struggling to pack standing orders for regular customers.  At this time no packer is processing, nor is able to do so for speculative purposes.

Sugar!  I am sure we have all heard the horror stories of droughts in Brazil and too much rain in India; of weather preventing harvests of sugar beets in the Red River Valley; of not enough irrigation water in California; of issues with processing facilities; and it goes on and on!  The bottom line-prices will remain very strong through the 2010 year!  Fruit Fillings is working very diligently to position itself in this market environment to better serve our customers in the upcoming year.

There are plenty frozen strawberry products of various grades in the marketplace.  There is a possibility that prices in the 2010 harvests may be affected in an upward manner due to less acreage planting in California, south of the border in Mexico, and South America.  Central Mexico harvests for the frozen markets usually begin, depending on the strength of the fresh market, from late November to mid December.

The Raspberry pricing, which is significantly lower than last year at this time, should remain constant with no foreseeable increases in the near future.  The South American Harvest is going well with 2009 American product still available.  Serbia has had some problem with its harvest which may help explain the lack of movement in current pricing.
